Recently active means the account interacted with the service within a product-defined period, but the exact period may range from hours to several days.
An open app, background session or quick notification check can create an activity signal without indicating that the person is currently reading profiles.
Relative labels protect precise timing
Services may show active today or recently active instead of an exact timestamp, reducing the amount of behavioural detail exposed to other members.
Activity is useful only with relevance
A recently active profile in the wrong area or seeking a different arrangement is not a better match than a slightly older but compatible profile.
Common questions
Read this quietly.
How recent is recently active?+
The site defines the window; it may be hours or days.
A profile says recently active. A reader treats that as evidence that the person is currently free for a local meeting, although the service may mean activity within several days.
Wording you can adapt
Check how the service defines the indicator, then ask about availability directly if conversation starts.
What this clears up
Account activity, presence in a city and willingness to meet are separate signals. A login does not establish any of the latter two, and a profile may have an irregular routine.
